The Armed Services: Who is Fighting for us?
The army’s recruitment ads encouraged young men and women to “be all they can be;” to “get an edge on life.” The armed forces, it seemed, was a high tech community college that young adults could use to springboard them to successful careers in the computer industry. But since the terrorist attacks of 9/11, members of the armed services are being called to prepare for combat — not a high-paying job. Who makes up our troops? And are they ready for battle?
