George McGovern on World Hunger

“Ending hunger is a greater moral imperative now than ever before, because for the first time humanity has the instruments in hand to defeat this cruel enemy at a reasonable cost,” writes former Presidential candidate George McGovern in his new book, “The Third Freedom: Ending Hunger in Our Time.” Along with former Senator Bob Dole, McGovern is urging that 5 billion of the $40 billion allocated to the war on terrorism be used to fight world hunger. With less hunger, McGovern argues, the ability of people like Osama bin Laden to cultivate followers among the desperately poor would diminsh. On the day before most Americans will eat a huge Thanksgiving meal, George McGovern joins us to discuss world hunger.

Guests:

George McGovern, former Senator and Democratic Presidential candidate in 1972

author of “The Third Freedom: Ending Hunger In Our Time”
