Tariq Ali on What America is Sowing Today

On September 11th, the United States reaped what it had been sowing for 30 years, says filmmaker and writer Tariq Ali. While he says the attacks were not at all justified, Ali blames America’s imperialism and its interference in other countries’ affairs for the anger and hatred that manifested itself in the unjust attacks.

Since the attacks in September, the United States has made several new decisions about its role in the world: overthrowing the Taliban; avoiding the Israeli-Palestinian crisis and then trying to broker peace; threatening to attack Iraq; choosing not to sign on to the International Criminal Court.

This hour, Tariq Ali weighs in on the decisions the United States has made since the September 11th attacks. Is America sowing the seeds for further anger and hatred? How are the streets of the Middle East and other parts of the world reacting to American foreign policy post-9/11?

Guests:

Tariq Ali, author of “The Clash of Fundamentalisms: Crusades, Jihads, and Modernity
