An Intimate Discussion with Director John Waters

For close to 40 years, filmmaker John Waters has been shooting to shock the silver screen. The plots are always bizarre: from filth-out contests to apple-pie mom turns serial killer, to a musical on the rivalry between squares and greasers.

But what they all share is the shock, horror, sex and edge that has earned him the title of The Pope of Trash, the sultan of Sleaze and Baron of Bad Taste.

At 52, John Waters says his rage and bad taste have died down. You be the judge. This hour, Tom Ashbrook sits down for an intimate chat with director John Waters.
