The Future of the Arab World

A new United Nations report by Arab intellectuals warns that the region has not yet realized its full potential.

On measures of civil liberties, political rights, and freedom of the media the Arab world is still falling short.

The region is “richer than it is developed.” Half of all Arab women cannot read or write. Intellectuals continue to leave for less repressive environments. The resources are there, the report says, but it’s commitment that’s needed to instigate change.

In this hour, the future of the Arab world. Why are Arab countries still lagging behind? And what needs to change?
