The High-Tech Horizon
photo

The high-tech boom made 20-somethings millionaires, Microsoft king, and connected computer users in a vast global electronic web. Technology spurred the high-growth 90s economy. But what happened after the bubble burst?

The technology that was in the embryonic stages in the 90s–cell phones, the Internet, and personal digital assistants–have become as accepted as telephones and TV. But the next generation of technology is still awaiting the 21st century revolution.

In this hour, the author of “Faster” and “Chaos,” James Gleick, weighs in on the outlook for technological innovation in these uncertain times. What do you see on the high-tech horizon? What technology in the 90s was real…and what was just hype?

Guests:

James Gleick, Author of “What Just Happened: A Chronicle from the Information Frontier”

Paul Saffo, Director of the Institute for the Future
