Prime Time President

In one hour, President Bush will step up to the podium and deliver his State of the Union Address. The address comes at the halfway point of his presidency and the challenges are huge. The economy’s in the crapper. Medicare’s on life support. War looms with Iraq.

Oh what a difference a year makes. After the 9-11 attacks, the President’s popularity soared. He seemed to have the Midas touch–just look at mid-term election results. That was then. Now, the polls show him slipping. Support for war is eroding. Gram and gramps are shaking empty pill vials in protest over sky-high prescription costs. The stakes for President Bush are high. Tonight On Point: The Bush Presidency at the crossroads and road ahead for the nation. Some of the country’s best political minds and you weigh in.

Guests:

Eleanor Clift, contributing editor Newsweek magazine

Andrew Kohut, director of the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press

E.J. Dionne, columnist Washington Post, senior fellow Brookings Institution

Jack Beatty, On Point news analyst, Byron York, White House Correspondent The National Review
