Sifting Through the Rubble of Saddam’s Regime
photo

Saddam Hussein and his power elite crumbled yesterday to U.S.-led troops in the former Iraqi dictator’s hometown of Tikrit. The overwhelming majority of Tikrit’s population of 35,000 were part of his elite pack, having held positions in the top ranks of nearly every sector of Iraqi government and society.

Click the “Listen” link above to hear how and why Saddam crumbled so quickly and how his loyalists didn’t put up much of a fight. Also, hear about the roles Tikritis played in Saddam’s regime, and whether they’ll have a role to play in the new Iraq.

Guests:

Amatzia Baram, Professor of Middle East History at Haifa University and Fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution.

You’ll get there really fast, it depends on your connection speed.
    Good luck.
