Swing Out, Sister

Annika Sorenstam is the Tiger Woods of the LPGA. With 43 tournament wins in just a decade, she dominates the field. Now, she’s getting ready to tee off against the men at the Colonial Open in Fort Worth, Texas. It is the home course of Ben Hogan, one of only five players to win all four Grand Slam titles.

Not everyone is cheering her on, and it’s not just the men who question why she’s playing. Some women say Sorenstam is diminishing the women’s tour by opting to play with the men; some male golfers say she’s taking a spot away from a man. One thing everyone can agree on is that the spotlight will be on Sorenstam this weekend, and if she makes the cut, professional golf may find itself charting a new course.
