Questions about the accuracy of intelligence reports that were used to make the case for war in Iraq continue to arise. Critics of the administrations use of those reports want an open, bipartisan investigation. The administration is now admitting to inaccuracies but stands by its assertion that Iraq was an immanent threat to U.S. security.
At issue is why incorrect statements were used in the president’s State of the Union speech when he alleged that Saddam was attempting to acquire uranium from Niger. Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who led the investigation into the matter, claims to have informed the vice president’s office that the evidence was unfounded 11 months before the president’s speech.
