Rewriting the Clean Air Act
photo

The Bush administration has changed the rules of a major program within the Clean Air Act. The “New Source Review” program has been revised to allow electric utilities, refineries, chemical plants and other industrial manufacturers to make upgrades to facilities without using the best available environmental technologies. The General Accounting Office has released a report saying that there was no scientific evidence to support the EPA’s claim that the rules needed to be changed. On Point examines the change and how it will impact business, the environment and your health.

Guests:

Elizabeth Shogren, environmental reporter for the Los Angeles Times

Jeff Holmstead, assistant administrator of air quality for the Environmental Protection Agency

John Walke, director of the clean air project for the Natural Resources Defense Council

Scott Segal, director of the Electric Reliability Coordinating Council
