Madam Secretary
photo

Madeleine Korbel Albright served as the U.S. Secretary of State from 1997 to 2001. Sixty-three men held the position before her. She is the only woman ever to have held the post, and the highest ranking woman in the history of the United States government.

Madeleine Albright’s tenure as Secretary of State took her and America through the wars in Bosnia and Kosovo, the Al Qaeda terrorist bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, and the first days of hope for the fragile Mideast peace agreement born in Oslo.

Now, nearly two years after she passed the post to her successor, Colin Powell, Madeleine Albright remains an influential figure on the world stage. Her new memoir is titled “Madam Secretary.”

Click the “Listen” link to hear Madeleine Albright talk about her experience as U.S. Secretary of State and her thoughts on U.S. foreign policy in a post 9-11 world.
