The Ice Women Cometh
photo

Everyone has dreams and usually some that seem close to fantasy: to win Olympic gold, find a cure for cancer, star on Broadway, walk on the moon. But while all of us can dream, few have the moxie or mettle to make those wildest dreams come true. Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen are among those few.

In a journey that seems unthinkable to mere mortals, these two adventurers set out to conquer Antarctica. For three months, across 1,700 miles, in bone-numbing temperatures, the often frozen but always fiercely- determined duo chased their dream across the polar cap, and succeeded. They became the first women to cross the frozen continent on foot.

Click the “Listen” link to hear about the adventures of the first two women, Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen, to trek across the frozen tundra of Antarctica.

Guests:

Ann Bancroft, first woman in history to cross the ice to both the North and South Poles, part of two- women team that was first to cross the Anatarctic continent on foot, co-author of “No Horizon is so Far: A Historic Journey Across Antarctica”

Liv Arnesen, the first woman to ski solo and unsuported to the South Pole, part of two-woman team that was the first to cross the Antactic continent on foot, co-author of “No Horizon is so Far: A Historic Journey Across Antarctica”
