The Taliban Re-emerges
photo

Major combat operations in Afghanistan have made a comeback. Two U.S. soldiers were killed on Sunday in a pitched battle between Taliban and coalition troops. Afghan military officials claim that as many as 40 Taliban soldiers were killed in the battle.

There is increasing evidence that attacks are being launched from across the border with Pakistan. The Pakistan Government vehemently denies that the Taliban are operating in the country but guest Michael Ware, correspondent with Time Magazine, spent a week with Taliban soldiers in Pakistan recently and speaks first hand of their re-emergence.

Guests:

Ahmed Rashid, correspondent, Far East Economic Review

Michael Ware, foreign correspondent, Time magazine

Thomas Gouttierre, Dean of International Studies at the University of Nebraska, Omaha
