Two weeks ago, Bolivian president Gonzalo Sanchez was toppled from power. The wealthy and cosmopolitan leader was friendly to the United States and its global objectives.

His ouster is seen by some as a rejection of globalization and rising anti-Americanism. in the region. Efforts by the United States to “get serious” about Bolivia’s coca crops have led to lost jobs and riots. Critics of American policy also say that there hasn’t been enough foreign assistance to offset the lost revenues from coca.

Is the ouster of Bolivian president Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada a failure of Bolivian policy? U.S. Policy? What are the global implications when a country rejects globalization?
