Monster of God

Throughout its history, humankind has been haunted by the presence of large alpha predators. Our folktales, our myths and sacred scriptures are laced with tales of conflict with dreaded beasts. For thousands of years, these struggles have taught people about the depths and limits of human power.

In his book, “Monster of God: The Man-Eating Predator in the Jungles of History and the Mind,” David Quammen argues that we evolved together and that once the giant predators are gone, humans may never be the same.
