Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasir Arafat has named ally and long-time supporter Hakam Balawi as acting security chief. This position is crucial one for the success of the peace process. Arafat’s move is sure to deepen the rift between him and the Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei, who threatened on Sunday to resign after only 5 days on the job.
