Candidate Howard Dean
photo

Howard Dean is hot on the campaign trail. He’s promising to roll back the Bush tax cuts, expand health care and shake up Washington. The Democratic hopeful is brash, bold and leading in the polls. And the New Hampshire primary is less than three months away.

Tonight, we begin the first in a series of programs about the top Democratic candidates. Howard Dean grew up in New York City, went to Yale University, worked for a brief stint on Wall Street, and then changed paths, and enrolled in Albert Einstein medical school.

When he finished medical school he moved to Vermont, where he quickly became interested in politics. He became lieutenant governor in 1986, and then in 1991 then-governor Richard Snelling died of a heart attack, making Dean became governor. Now Dean wants to be your president.

Tonight, On Point: Howard Dean tells us why he deserves to be president. We look at the man and his candidacy.

Guests:

Howard Dean, Democratic presidential frontrunner and former governor of Vermont

Kathy Hoyt, from 1997 to 2002 she was Dean’s top cabinet official and oversaw the departments of finance and management, and tax and personnel. From 1991 to 1997 she was the governor’s chief of staff.
