Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle is at the center of the divisive debates over the energy and Medicare bills in Congress. He supports the Republican-backed energy bill that gives $13 billion in tax breaks to oil, gas and coal companies and doubles ethanol production by 2012, which would pour money into his rural South Dakota. And he will vote against the AARP-backed Medicare bill that, he said, would make “25 percent of our seniors… worse off.” We talk to Tom Daschle about the biggest votes of the year, and his role as the Senate’s minority leader.

Guests:

Tom Daschle, senate democratic leader, he won his first Senate seat in 1986, and in 1994 was elected the democratic leader. He is a member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. His new book is, “Like No Other Time: The 107th Congress and the Two Years that Changed America Forever”
