By any standard, it has been a brutal winter in much of the country this year. Just this week, record low temperatures were set in cities from Rochester, New York to Salt Lake City, Utah. Boston had its coldest January in over 100 years. And according to America’s groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, the end of winter is still a ways off.
Naturalist Kenn Kaufman is editor of the Kaufman Focus Guides series, the palm-sized guides carried by birdwatchers and nature lovers. In this radio diary, he says despite the deep freeze, the first signs of spring are starting to emerge.
