Massachusetts resident Frank Schaeffer understands the pain and unease of parents who are awaiting the return of their military sons and daughters from a war zone. His son, Marine Corporal John Schaeffer, was deployed in Afghanistan for 11 months, beginning last March. Corporal Schaeffer was on the front lines of the hunt for al Qaeda holdouts. Frank Schaeffer kept a detailed journal during the months his son was away, which he has turned into the new book “Faith of Our Sons: A Father’s Wartime Diary.” In this radio diary, Frank Schaeffer recalls the hardest part of having his son deployed in the line of fire on the other side of the world.
