India’s Digital Revolution

It is a job that used to be done in the United States, but has now been “outsourced” or “off-shored” to India. To a call center where the night shift studies accent neutralization to flatten their English to sound more American and adopt American-sounding work names. And the 24/7 call centers are just the tip of the iceberg, a visible wave of globalization.

Millions of 20-something Indians want their piece of “The Great Indian Dream,” says New York Times foreign affairs columnist Thomas Friedman, who is back from a deep tour of India with word on how globalization is playing out on the other side of outsourcing.

Christopher Hill: U.S. Troop Withdrawal ‘On Schedule’

U.S. Ambassaor to Iraq Christopher Hill spoke with On Point live from Baghdad today as early voting gets underway, part of the run-up to Sunday’s elections. “So far so good,” Hill said, despite scattered violence. Hill said that the plan to withdraw U.S. combat troops by Sept. 1, and to leave only a residual advisory force of 50,000 or fewer, remains “very much on schedule.” Observers worry that a spike in violence could derail that timeline.
