3) In Bangkok, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan calls for greater US leadership in the war against AIDS. Nelson Mandela was there too, demanding greater commitment from the international community to fight the global AIDS pandemic.
4) Martha Stewart is sentenced today to five months in prison.
5) The Senate approves at $12 billion dollar buyout of American tobacco farmers and new federal restrictions on cigarette manufacturers.
6) NAACP chairman Julian Bond lashes out at President Bush for refusing to speak at the 95th annual NAACP convention in Philadelphia. John Kerry, however, did speak.
7) Vice President Dick Cheney refutes rumors that he might be dropped from the Bush re-election ticket.
The Senate rejects a Constitutional Amendment banning gay-marriage.
