Today the U.S. Senate began the debate on a marriage constitutional amendment. If it passes, the amendment would define marriage as the union between a man and a woman, and would prohibit the federal recognition of same-sex marriages in America.
Democrats accuse Republicans of using the gay marriage debate as a political tool. Republicans say this debate cannot wait.
