Memoir of a Jeopardy Champion

For the first time since June 2, episodes of Jeopardy this week will not feature all-time champion Ken Jennings. That’s not because the software engineer from Utah was defeated. It’s because the quiz show is in reruns for the next few weeks. On Friday, Jennings extended his remarkable winning streak to 38 and his earnings ballooned to $1.3 million.

California writer Bob Harris knows a little bit about what Ken Jennings has been able to accomplish. Harris was a five-time Jeopardy Champ himself, back in the days when champions were retired after five victories. In this radio diary, Bob Harris reflects on his own Jeopardy experience and why he thinks Ken Jennings will remain champion for a long time to come.

Guests:

Bob Harris, writer and former Jeopardy Champion living in Los Angeles, California

Christopher Hill: U.S. Troop Withdrawal ‘On Schedule’

U.S. Ambassaor to Iraq Christopher Hill spoke with On Point live from Baghdad today as early voting gets underway, part of the run-up to Sunday’s elections. “So far so good,” Hill said, despite scattered violence. Hill said that the plan to withdraw U.S. combat troops by Sept. 1, and to leave only a residual advisory force of 50,000 or fewer, remains “very much on schedule.” Observers worry that a spike in violence could derail that timeline.
