Fay Wray appeared with such stars as Gary Cooper and Spencer Tracy, but it was her role as a damsel in distress held atop the Empire State Building in “King Kong” that earned her everlasting fame. Wray died yesterday in her Manhattan apartment. She was 96 years old.

Rick McKay is a longtime friend of Wray and directed the last film that she appeared in. In this radio diary, he recalls what it was about Fay Wray’s performance in King Kong that has kept her a household name 70 years after the film’s release.
