Conservatives on Campus
photo

As the 2004 U.S. presidential election showed, America is more Red than Blue. But on college campuses, it is very much the opposite. The overwhelming majority of professors identify themselves as “liberal” whereas professors identifying themselves as “conservative” are few and far between.

Many say that the lack of conservative college professors reflects a long-standing bias in academia toward liberal ideology. Academics, they say, are out of touch with the true political tilt of the country. It’s an environment that suppresses debate and discussion, even leading to discrimination against students who hold conservative views.

Tune in to hear more about the lonely conservative on college campuses and what it means for America.

Guests:

Mike Adams, associate professor of criminal justice at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington, columnist for TownHall.com, author of The Ivory Tower of Babel: Confessions of a Conservative Professor;

Donald Lazere, professor emeritus of English at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, lecturer at the University of Tennessee, member of a steering committee of Teachers for a Democratic Culture, an organization of progressive college professors, and author of the forthcoming textbook, Reading and Writing for Civil Literacy: The Critical Citizens Guide to Argumentative Rhetoric;

Carol Swain, professor of law and political science at Vanderbilt University, author of Black Faces, Black Interests: The Representation of African Americans in Congress and The New White Nationalism in America: Its Challenge to Integration;

Ben Shapiro, graduate of UCLA and a student at Harvard Law School, author of Brainwashed: How Universities Indoctrinate America’s Youth;
