As the 2004 U.S. presidential election showed, America is more Red than Blue. But on college campuses, it is very much the opposite. The overwhelming majority of professors identify themselves as “liberal” whereas professors identifying themselves as “conservative” are few and far between.

Many say that the lack of conservative college professors reflects a long-standing bias in academia toward liberal ideology. Academics, they say, are out of touch with the true political tilt of the country. It’s an environment that suppresses debate and discussion, even leading to discrimination against students who hold conservative views.
