Recruiting in a Time of War
photo

Today, the U.S. announced that it plans to expand its military force in Iraq to a record 150 thousand before the planned national elections next month. For the first time since the Vietnam war, the military is facing a sustained conflict with an all-volunteer force.

Hear a discussion on whether Pentagon’s recruitment strategies are fair for the new service personnel or if they need to change.

Guests:

Cindy Williiams, Senior Research Fellow of the Security Studies Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Charlie Savage, Washington correspondent for the Boston Globe

Todd Zwolensky, Captain and company commander for recruiting in greater Kansas City.
