Nuclear North Korea
photo

North Korea has publicly admitted that it has nuclear weapons. But beyond the country’s escalating nuclear brinkmanship with the U.S., very little else is known about its closed society.

A new book by Asia-based foreign correspondent Bradley Martin peels away some of the layers shielding the country. “Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader: North Korea and the Kim Dynasty” chronicles the methods of indoctrinating children, the brutality of the gulags, and the peccadilloes of North Korea’s rulers.

Hear a conversation about North Korea’s nuclear weapons and everyday life in the self-isolated, hard-line Communist state.

Guests:

Gordon Fairclough, Seoul correspondent for The Wall Street Journal

Bradley K. Martin, author of “Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader: North Korea and the Kim Dynasty”

David Sanger, White House correspondent for The New York Times

Ambassador Donald Gregg, President and Chairman of the Korea Society, former Ambassador to Korea.
