Among the major news developments of this past week:

1) Syria is expected to announce a partial withdrawal from Lebanon after a popular uprising there. The half-measure would fall short of the demands of the U.S. and Arab nations, who want them out completely.

2) The U.S. death toll in Iraq passes 1,500.

3) President Bush and administration officials take to the road on a 60-day, 60-stop tour to push for changes to the social security system.

4) Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan offers support to the idea of a national consumption tax.

5) The Supreme Court hears arguments about whether the Ten Commandments can be displayed on public property.

6) Dennis Rader is charged with 10 murders in Wichita, Kansas. He is suspected of being the so-called BTK killer.

7) Two family members of Chicago Federal Judge Joan Lefkow are found murdered.
8) And Martha Stewart leaves prison, having served her 5-month sentence.

On Point host Tom Ashbrook and news analyst Jack Beatty discuss this week’s major news.
