Calling American high schools “obsolete” and “outdated,” Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates is pushing for a radical restructuring of the American education system. Speaking at an education summit co-sponsored by the National Governor Association over the weekend, Gates argued that two-thirds of high school students are not adequately being prepared for the challenges of life in the 21st century.
“If we keep the system as it is, millions of children will never get a chance to fulfill their promise because of their zip code, their skin color, or the income of their parents,” Gates said. “That is offensive to our values, and it’s an insult to who we are.”
