Schiavo’s Lessons

By the end of her life, everyone knew her name and her story. Today, Terri Schiavo died in a Florida hospice 13 days after the feeding tube that had kept her alive for the past 15 years was disconnected.

The case drew worldwide attention and raised awareness about issues of death and dying. As the political and legal debates raged on, around kitchen tables across the country, families talked about their own end-of-life decisions, many for the first time.
