Bush and Sharon Meeting

President Bush met with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas. Initial hopes for a quick end to the fighting after Yasir Arafat’s death have dissipated as Sharon and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas seem stuck in an intractable statement.

Bush reiterated America’s commitment to Israel and praised Sharon for his leadership.

Steven Erlanger, Jerusalem bureau chief for the New York Times, puts a headline on today’s meeting.
