Marine on Trial

A U.S. Marine from New York could face the death penalty if he is found guilty of the premeditated murder of two Iraqi detainees. The case against Second Lt. Ilario Pantano, a former Gulf War sergeant and father of two, opened today in a military courtroom at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Pantano claims self-defense, saying he believed he was going to be attacked. But official reports suggest that he executed the unarmed Iraqis. Pantano is the only member of the Marine Corps accused of a capital crime in the Iraq war.

John Desantis, a Wilmington-Star News reporter who broke the story, reports on the latest.

Guests:

John Desantis, staff writer with the Wilmington Star News in North Carolina, and New York Times regional newspaper.
