Best-selling author Buzz Bissinger brought the nation inside the high school football craze in his bestseller “Friday Night Lights.” In his new book, “Three Nights in August,” he goes inside the dugouts of Major League Baseball and specifically inside the mind of St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa.

Bissinger follows the Cardinals and their intense leader through a crucial three-game series in 2003 with their rival Chicago Cubs.

In this radio diary, he reads a passage from the book, and sums up the state of baseball as he sees it, in this era of steroid abuse and multimillion dollar contracts.

Guests:

Buzz Bissinger, author of “Friday Night Lights.” His new book is titled “Three Nights in August.”
