After “Citizen Kane,” Hollywood turned into Orson Welles’s worst enemy. Between 1940 and 1958, Welles would make six studio films, four of which were taken away from him in the editing stage and completely reworked. The reworking of “Touch of Evil” would be the final straw.
Orson Welles came into Hollywood at the end of its golden era but his aesthetic threatened the way the studio system made its movies. Alas, many other masterpieces by the great film master were not made for the world to see.
