Last Child in the Woods
photo

In his new book, “Last Child in the Woods,” journalist Richard Louv warns that children are being scared away from playing in the woods and that it is wrecking havoc on their physical and psychological well-being.

For ten years, Louv traveled across the country interviewing children and parents in urban and rural neighborhoods about their experiences in nature. The story was the same. Kids playing video games instead of rambling in the woods. Kids losing sight of nature around them while learning about the Amazon rain forests in school.

Tune in for a conversation about what Richard Louv calls “nature-deficit disorder” and what it means for our children’s bodies and souls.

Guests:

Richard Louv, columnist for The San Diego Union-Tribune and author of seven books about family, nature and community, including the new book “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder”

David Sobel, director of Integrated Learning Programs, Antioch New England Graduate School and author of “Beyond Ecophobia: Reclaiming the Heart in Nature Education”

Jack Beatty, On Point news analyst and a senior editor at The Atlantic Monthly.
