With polls showing popular support for the war in Iraq floundering, President Bush will address the nation and urge Americans to steel their resolve. The President will speak in Fort Bragg, North Carolina on the one-year anniversary of the formal transfer of sovereignty to Iraqis.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan says the President will try to focus Americans on the progress being made in Iraq and away from the daily reports of violence. At least 70 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq this month — more than 400 this year, and more than 1,700 total.
Rusty Jacobs is a reporter with North Carolina Public Radio, WUNC, and has been speaking with soldiers and families about what they need to hear from Bush.
