Like many tourists in Spain, journalist Edward Lewine found himself at a bullfight. He ended up fascinated with what he calls the “strange and violent subculture” of bullfighting.
Several years after his first experience of bullfighting, he spent a season traveling with one of Spain’s young bullfighting stars, a fourth-generation matador who struggles with the weight of history. The result is an engaging new book called “Death and the Sun.”
