photo

The sixth Harry Potter novel by author J.K. Rowling flew off shelves this past weekend. With this latest installment, scholars are taking a closer look at the series and its deeper lessons.

They’re studying what Harry Potter tells us about good and evil, about the meaning of life, and where Rowling fits in with past great authors who wrote for children, including C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.

On Point looks between the lines for a deeper understanding of the Harry Potter books.

Guests:

Jonathan Last, editor at the Weekly Standard

David Baggett, professor of philosophy at King’s College in Pennsylvania and co-editor of “Harry Potter and Philosophy: If Aristotle Ran Hogwarts.”

Tom Morris, former professor of philosophy at University of Notre Dame and now chairman of the Morris Institute for Human Values, which offers business advice grounded in philosophy. His forthcoming book is “If Harry Potter ran GE.”
