For writer John Richardson, family history is the history of the 20th Century. His father Jack was a founding member of the CIA who worked Cold War hotspots in the 1940s and ’50s. His family joined him at his postings, but the truth about his job stayed hidden from his wife and children. Eventually though, his cover was blown, intentionally, by the US during the Vietnam War.
Jack Richardson was the first CIA operative known to have been outed by fellow Americans. He died in 1998. Now, his son John has written about his father’s secret life in a new memoir titled “My Father The Spy.”
In this radio diary Richardson remembers his father, and the secrets that bound them together.
