David Swensen on Investing
photo

Two weeks ago, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan gave a stark warning that housing and stock prices could tumble. That’s just one more thing for the small investor to worry about.

Yale University’s chief investment officer David Swensen is at the top of his class. He manages Yale’s $15 billion endowment, which has grown an average of 16 percent a year since he was hired 20 years ago.

Now Swensen has turned to giving advice to the millions of American investors who do not have billions, but are desperately hoping that what they have saved will carry them, one day, through a retirement better than poverty. His advise: stay away from mutual funds and move over to a well diversified portfolio of index funds.

Hear a conversation with investment officer David Swensen on you should do to protect, and grow, your nest egg.

Guests:

David Swensen, chief investment officer at Yale University. He is author of the bestselling book, “Pioneering Portfolio Management: An Unconventional Approach to Institutional Investment.” His new book is “Unconventional Success: A Fundamental Approach to Personal Investment.”
