Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party
photo

By Host Tom Ashbrook

Hillary Clinton knows her way around the White House pretty well. The question is whether she’ll ever go back — as president.

A rough patch for the GOP — from the struggle in Iraq, to the struggle with Katrina, to the struggle with giant GOP deficits — has Democrats licking their chops for next year’s mid-term elections, and for the big one in ‘08.

But the Democratic Party has been blasted from within and without for missing a message of its own. And there stands Hillary — long branded a leftist, now assiduously a centrist, widely seen as the single most powerful figure in the Democratic Party. The wise-guy wisdom in Washington is: she can’t win. Is that right?
