Profile of a Prosecutor
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

In the Hollywood version, justice out of Chicago came in the form of Kevin Costner and Sean Connery in “The Untouchables”: tough, idealistic crusaders against Al Capone. In the Washington version, circa 2005, justice in the Valerie Plame leak case stood up last week in the form of one special prosecutor called Patrick Fitzgerald.

The tenacious top federal prosecutor in Chicago was tapped two years ago to dig into the most explosive case in Washington. Last Friday, in a tour-de-force press conference in the capitol, the Brooklyn-born son of an Irish immigrant doorman stood up to indict “Scooter” Libby and send a chill into the nation’s inner most sanctum of power.

Hear about Patrick Fitzgerald – the man, and what he’s up against now.

Guests:

Kristen Scharnberg, National Correspondent, Chicago Tribune

Sarah Kelley, reporter for Legal Times.

Charles Tiefer, professor at the University of Baltimore Law School, former Special Deputy Chief Counsel for the Iran Contra Committee, and author of the forthcoming book, “Veering Right: How President Bush Subverts the Law for Conservative Causes.”
