Investigating the Plame CIA Leak
photo

By guest host Bob Oakes:

Today’s arraignment of “Scooter” Libby puts his former boss — Vice President Dick Cheney — in the crosshairs and it raises questions about Karl Rove, President Bush’s political strategist.

While the charges against Libby still must be proven in court, the now-resigned chief of staff for Cheney has left a trail of intrigue behind him about the possibility of an even deeper groove of criminality in the White House. Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald made a compelling case in his press conference last Friday, laying out a web of lies that, if true, Libby apparently wove to the FBI and a grand jury.

Could the leak about CIA operative Valerie Plame have come only from Libby? Or is he just taking the fall? Does the Vice President owe the nation an explanation about his role in all this?

As Scooter Libby gets arraigned, should the Vice President be worried?

Guests:

John Nichols, political writer for The Nation and author of “The Rise and Rise of Richard B. Cheney: Unlocking the Mysteries of the Most Powerful Vice President in American History

John Fund, columnist for the Wall Street Journal’s OpinionJournal.com

Jack Beatty, On Point News Analyst and Senior Editor at the Atlantic Monthly.
