Harpist Deborah Henson-Conant
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

Virtuoso out-of-the box harpist Deborah Henson-Conant is known as the rockin’ bad girl of the harp world. She took the ancient instrument off its pedestal, cocked it on her hip, and made it play everything from Mexican cantina music to Brubeck to gut-bucket blues and sounds like Van Halen.

She’s the rebel harpist who plays like the devil and who didn’t come naturally to Christmas carols. But she’s also a thinker and a keen observer – and what she saw in the world was the people, owning these songs of the season, pulling them out century after century, and singing together. And that brought over the bad girl.

Hear harpist Deborah Henson-Conant talk about and perform songs of the season.

Guests:

Deborah Henson-Conant, harpist, composer, and singer.
