Abramoff Makes a Deal
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

The word in Washington today is “panic.” Washington super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff, the big- money K Street darling of the capitol’s Bush-GOP era, has pleaded guilty to, essentially, corrupting Congress. He’s cut a deal with the Feds and is ready to sing.

The GOP stalwart who loved to entertain DC insiders with his imitation of “The Godfather’s” Michael Corleone will now entertain prosecutors and courtrooms with point-by-point descriptions of how he bought Capitol Hill. The onetime chairman of the country’s College Republicans will now take the country to school on exactly how lobbying becomes straight-up bribery.

Hear about the Abramoff plea, and the fallout ahead in Washington.

Guests:

Anne E. Kornblut, National Reporter, New York Times

Karen Tumulty, National Political Correspondent, Time Magazine

Jeff Birnbaum, National Reporter, Washington Post, writes Post’s “K Street Confidential” column

Larry Noble, Executive Director, Center for Responsive Politics.
