Sarah Jones’ “Bridge & Tunnel”
photo

By guest host Anthony Brooks:

“Bridge & Tunnel” is the Broadway play that brings together a cast of American immigrants for an evening of open-mike poetry.

The characters include Mohammad Ali, the Pakistani emcee who loves bad puns and frets about an interview with the department of Homeland Security, the elderly Lorraine Levine, who remembers when suburban communities had signs proclaiming “NO Jews,” the Chinese Mrs. Ling struggling to accept that her daughter’s a lesbian, and the jittery hip hop poet, Rashid.

In all, 14 vivid characters. What they have in common is the polyglot reality of New York in 2006, and that they’re all brought to life by playwright and actress Sarah Jones.

Hear a conversation with Sarah Jones about her 14 roles in the Broadway play “Bridge and Tunnel.”

Guests:

Sarah Jones, Obie-award winning playwright, actor and poet. Her critically acclaimed one-woman show “Bridge & Tunnel,” produced by Meryl Streep, opened off-Broadway in 2004 and moved to Broadway last month and has just been extended through July 9. Jones has received the Helen Hayes Award, two Drama Desk nominations, and HBO’s Aspen Comedy Arts Festival’s Best One Person Show Award.
