The “Rebel-in-Chief”
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

History’s judgment on the presidency of George W. Bush may take a while, but conservative columnist Fred Barnes is ready now. Never mind the caterwauling of the establishment, says Barnes. Never mind the gripes of journalists and traditional Republicans and outraged Democrats, he says.

In his new book “Rebel-in-Chief,” Barnes describes the president from Texas as an insurgent visionary in the mold of FDR and Ronald Reagan, marching by his own compass, ready to remake the world, whether the world likes it or not.

It looks like an awkward moment for the argument, with Bush trimming his sails, indictments dropping across Washington, hearings on the Hill. Small stuff, says Barnes.

Tune in for a conversation with conservative champ Fred Barnes on the glory of the rebel president George W. Bush.

Guests:

Fred Barnes, executive editor, The Weekly Standard and author of “Rebel-in-Chief: How George W. Bush Is Redefining the Conservative Movement and Transforming America”

Jack Beatty, “On Point” news analyst and a senior editor at The Atlantic Monthly.
