Should Rumsfeld Resign?
photo

By host Tom Ashbrook:

In the last two weeks, two top US generals, recently retired, have called for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Rumsfeld and Vice-President Cheney say the American public is getting too much bad news on Iraq from the press. Generals Anthony Zinni and Paul Eaton suggest the public has had too little truth about how we got into the mess in Iraq, and how bad it is now.

“Disastrous” is Zinni’s word. “Incompetent” is Eaton’s. The soldiers on the ground are great, they say, but Rumsfeld must go.

Hear a conversation with General Paul Eaton on accountability for failed leadership on Iraq, and the New Yorker’s George Packer, who writes that a flawed strategy has brought the US project in Iraq to the brink of defeat.

Guests:

Borzou Daragahi, Baghdad Correspondent for the Los Angeles Times

Retired Major General Paul Eaton

George Packer, staff writer for the New Yorker Magazine and Author of “The Assassin’s Gate: America in Iraq”
